Meilleur Ouvrier de France. Ornamental metalwork and living heritage.

Jean-Pierre Lebureau is a Meilleur Ouvrier de France (MOF) and ornamental metalworker based in Brières-les-Scellés, Essonne. Working zinc, copper, and sheet metal through repoussé and chiselling, he practises traditional techniques at the highest level of mastery.

His workshop, distinguished as an Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant, has intervened on the Pont au Double at Notre-Dame de Paris (2002), the clock tower crest at Gare de Lyon (2015), and the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte (2013–2022). He received the Prix AAF/VMF in 2016.

Practice

Between restoration and creation, Lebureau's ridge ornaments and sculpted embellishments open a dialogue between the memory of gesture and contemporary ornament. His work is not reproduction — it is transmission: the same hands, the same tools, the same materials, but always in the service of a living form.
