Rémi Segalas

Figurative drawing and painting. Bodily memory, gesture, and human narrative.

Born in Paris (14th arrondissement), Rémi Segalas grew up between the Sologne and the Béarn. He entered the École d'Arts Graphiques ETIC in Blois in 2009, training under published illustrators and graphic artists in academic drawing, painting, and illustration. Four years followed at the Beaux-Arts de Toulouse, then textile design, before returning to Paris to work alongside young fashion designers. He now devotes himself entirely to his painting.

His practice, associated with the current of Déstructuralisme Figuratif, seeks in anatomy and gesture a "human-animal symbiosis" where the body becomes an archive of postures, rites, and transmissions. He observes the horses of his equestrian club in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques on a daily basis.

Practice

Segalas works through sustained sessions with a live model, constructing scenes that question emotion through body language. He explores the body and its gestures — the intimacy of a posture, the weight of a glance — building an aesthetic that seeks to arrest the viewer.

His figurative approach retains its academic foundation. Through a silhouette, he narrates his present moment: the figure becomes a witness to an era in perpetual physical and moral evolution. The impulse is confessional — drawing as an outlet, a way of accounting for personal history and creative existence.

Distinction at the Salon des Artistes Français, 2022. Prix spécial du Salon du Dessin et de la Peinture à l'Eau, Paris, 2024.
