Réjane Gold has been building her practice for over fifteen years at the intersection of urban landscape and intimate feeling. She describes her pictorial gesture as obsessional work — returning again and again to the image until "the hand becomes the tool that expresses the mind."

Her paintings — often reduced to black and white, to line, to contrast — question the memory of places we pass through without always seeing them.

Practice

Gold's work resists the anecdotal. The urban motif is a pretext: what she pursues is the residue left by a place in the body of the person who has lived it. Each canvas is a negotiation between what was seen and what was felt.
