Réjane Gold

Painter. Urban landscapes in black and white.

Réjane has been building her practice for more than fifteen years at the intersection of the urban landscape and intimate feeling. She describes her pictorial gesture as obsessive work — returning again and again to the image, losing herself in the details that are the very essence of life.

Her paintings, through contrast, light and countless minute details, question the memory of the places we pass through without always seeing them.

Practice

Réjane's work resists the anecdotal. The urban motif is a pretext: what she pursues is the residue a place leaves in the body of the one who lived it. Each canvas is a negotiation between what was seen and what was felt. She defines her work by the link she weaves between shadow and light, between experience and emotion.
